Riva

I'm a historical author rather than a MH author but I know a little bit about the two new exciting lines -- Riva and Cherish. No longer is a reader  going to be forced to choose the sort of book she wants to read in the UK based on whether or not the bedroom door is open. Instead it will be based on the style of the book. So Cherish will  be those heart warming stories that make you sigh  with pleasure and Riva will be the fun and flirty stories that make you fizz. Riva will include the MH and certain fun and flirty from Romance. For example Liz Fielding, Jessica Hart, Nikki Logan all write really fun stories. Modern will continue to have its intense glamour.

Personally as a reader, I think it is a great idea as we are in the 21st century now after all.

What you do think about the new look?

Just found you! I'm in heaven!

I have a question regarding the "sheikh genre".  Recently I've noticed some new debut authors plus some modern authors mentioning they are going to be writing sheikh books.  Wonderful news.

Is there going to be a new series?

Thanks Annie! I hope it will

Thanks Annie! I hope it will get there eventually. At least, that's the plan. Smile

Long time...

Hi everyone,

Sorry not to have been here for a while. Travel and various other things have interrupted my schedule. Some good, some less than satisfactory, but that's life.

Good luck to everyone entering the latest contest. They really are such a wonderful way to snare and editor's attention.

Jackie, I'll be looking forward to seeing your book on the shelf.

OK, back to this ms. What, me avoiding work?Wink

Already found...

Yes, that would have been good to hear!

Hopefully you'll hear back sooner on this submission.

I'm excited about my idea for the contest, though I've realised I have no idea what the hero's relationship block is or what triggers the black moment! Anyway, can't start writing yet, need to get back to editing some sense into the last one.

I hope so, Mulberry! But

I hope so, Mulberry! But considering my last sub took nearly a year to get through the system, I think November would be pushing it. Anyway, I asked the EA if I should enter or not and she said that the competition was all about finding new voices and since they'd already found me, I didn't need to enter. Which was very nice of her. Wink

Jackie...

FIngers crossed you will be ineligible to enter by the closing date- 'cos you've had the Call!

So, are people starting new stories for the comp, or editing old ones? I'm going to do a new story that's been tickling me asking for attention for the past few weeks.

Ah found it

Seems I posted my advice on

Seems I posted my advice on the wrong thread. Doh!  EmbarassedThanks for mentioning it, Aideen.  It definitely is a great thing to do - nothing like seeing editorial feedback and being able to apply it to your own writing.  I would also check out author blogs as quite a few did advice posts during the last comp.

Good luck to everyone entering!

J

Sure sure

Of couse only in the competition, what else would you possibly mean?  Wink

I haven't seen my parents for six years, so I'm off fo a short holiday in Oz late September/ early October.

Hmm, editing. It's happening, slowly. I'm hoping to get a lot more done this weekend, but my first draft is hellishly rough so it needs mucho work.

Jack the lad, indeed!

I have a suspicious feeling that Jack is mad for a bit of attention so all going well I might just give him a go.  In the competition that is, you know me well enough to know that's what I meant...  When are you going to Australia?  I don't remember you telling us that, but then again I'm not great at remembering much lately.  How is the editing going btw?  Do you feel like you're actually getting somewhere now?

The deadline does make this comp very appealing, don't you think?  It gives a girl plenty of time to get a decent first chapter typed up, that's for sure.  But I need to remind myself that the remainder of the story needs telling too!

Aideen.

Yes!

Most definitely plan to. I have a new story idea I'm going to start on as soon as I've edited some sense into the current story! That's why I was so pleased to see entries aren't due to November- more writing time! Though I have a two week holiday back in Australia that might just mess things up a bit...

How about you? Jack the Lad?

Hey there Jane!

Decisions, decisions.  They are the worst, aren't they?  I think we all want to enter and most of us probably will.  And definitely Jackie's advice to go through the archives over at Ihearts is the best thing we can do.  A bit of light reading (only one chapter of course) and immediate access to what worked, what didn't.

Are you entering for sure Jane??

Aideen.

Found it!

It wasn't that easy to find this thread! This looks like a good place to talk about the new contest! Laughing

Anyone interested?

Hello again

Waving here, so glad to get back on. Am still having a few difficulties.

Caro, I smiled when you mentioned Miranda Lee. It was at a writers' session where she and Emma Darcy spoke that I got the idea for what became my first Modern romance. I feel that I owe them both for that original inspiration. It wasn't that they gave me the story idea but that listening to them really sparked my creativity and enthusiasm.

Finally sunny here after a day's writing and am aiming to get back into writing after a day's disruption.

Favourites

Hello all,

Hope the weather isn't too cheerless where you are.  My main series to read is MR and I particulalry enjoy Miranda Lee, Catherine George and Cathy Williams - all distinctively different.  I would hesitate to say they have their own style as that is a prescriptive or limiting term but I would say they have their own distinct 'voices' which I have grown to enjoy.

Miranda Lee has the pace and excitment (and sexy heroes) that I like, Catherine George is more measured but good characters, particulary the heroines. Cathy Williams writes excellent, witty verbal sparring between H & H and sometimes puts me in the mind of Jilly Cooper.

I've now joined the Readers Panel for MR and I am hoping this will add the pleasure I get from reading by extending that to reviewing, and making me reflect on, the books more thoroughly.

Kimberly I recently read the secret mistress arrangement - loved it.

If i have one gripe about modern heat its that two a month is not enough, would be great if there were 4 or 6, I generally read a book on one sitting so needless to say, it does not last long.

Love it!

Started reading the Modern and Modern heat books only recently (In fact, The Millionaire's Misbehaving Mistress was the first one I read, and I loved it!) Definitely my favourite series of M&B books so far.

Hey, y'all!

I was beginning to feel like the website didn't *want* me here.  I kept creating an account, but then couldn't log in.

Sigh.  But that's not exactly uncommon for me, is it?

Although, my attendance may be spotty until the new book is finished... Right, back to work.  ~waves at her editor~Laughing

Hi,

It's great to be here and to talk to so many Modern and Heat authors who've given me so much please over the years.

Thanks too, to Kate Walker for your 12 point guide to Writing Romance.  A must for aspiring authors, as are Jenny's tips in Meet the Editors.

I posted a partial Modern yesterday, and am busy working on my next wip.  Jenny's clear listing of reqirements for the Alpha male is helping me recreate my new hero.

The enthusiasm in the forums is so 'catching' and just the vaccination a flagging writer needs :-)

Thanks to the hundreds of Modern/Heat authors who've given me hours of pleasure.

Hi - I am an avid fan of modern and modern heat.  Have also just finished my first ms and about to send it off.  love the fact that there are so many published writers here!

Hellooo!

Hi everyone, finally made it here and so excited to have a site devoted to Modern and Modern Heat stories. Hope to see lots of familiar faces here and lots of brand new ones to talk about the books we all love.

Anne, congratulations on your recent RITA nomination. I have one of your books on pile reading pile now. It keeps getting moved aside as writing commitments take over but I WILL get there - can't wait.

Off now to wrestle, again, with my profile so I can put a signature block up!Smile

Thanks!

Sabrina,

Thanks for reading -- and enjoying -- Antonides' Forbidden Wife. I'm so happy that you did.  I've got my nose in the current ms so I've given up reading much at the moment. I love that between-books time when I can really enjoy other peoples' books!

Anne

Hello - good to be here!

Hi guys!  Just dropping into say hello - lovely to have a Modern and Modern Heat room here on the M&B Community!

Really enjoyed Jenny's tips on living with and loving Modern alpha heroes in the Meet The Editors section - very useful indeed!

I'm currently writing what will hopefully be my fourth Modern - wrestling away with a Greek Alpha at the moment :)  I'm just finishing reading Anne McAllister's RITA nominated 'Antonides Forbidden Wife' and loving every page!

Hope to see lots more people dropping in here soon.

Love Sabrina xx
