I LOVE FREE BOOKS - Mira on Facebook

Hi All,

My name is Anna and I'm the publishing assistant on the UK MIRA team. I'm so glad to see that everyone is enjoying the current crop of MIRA books, paritcularly authors like Diane Chamberlain and Rachel Vincent who we are very excited about.

I just wanted to pop in and let you all know about the MIRA facebook group.

Our facebook group is named I LOVE FREE BOOKS and it is a brilliant chance to get new readers sampling fantastic MIRA books. All you have to do is respond to the 'new free book' announcements that are posted on a monthly basis by emailing me at iwantafreebook@mirabooks.co.uk with your name and address. The first fifty people to respond will recieve a free copy of that month's MIRA title.

Head over the facebook where you can take a look at the group and join here - http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=10667077055&ref=mf

Our next book will be Margaret Leroy's stunning new novel The Drowning Girl , which will be given away at the beginning of next month.

Happy reading,

:)

The lost daughter

I'm delighted you enjoyed it, Caroline. If you are in the states, it might be easier for you to get your hands on The keeper of the light. One of Diane's earlier books. It's the best and well worth searching for. Enjoy it.

Finished The Lost Daughter

I just finished reading The Lost Daughter and absolutely loved it.  Thanks for recommending Diane Chamberlain.

Covers

Twilight has been a phenomenal success in the UK so urban paranormal must increase in popularity.

I agree, the cover plays an important part in my decision when I'm buying a book.  I think the UK ones tend to be better.  I wonder why that is?

Urban paranormal etc

One thing I do like about Mira is the wide range of women's fiction that they are publishing.

WIth urban paranormal, because of the Nocturne series book (published under Intrigue in this country), they are able to tap into some of the better paranormal authors.  It has been an incredibly fast growing market in the US and so it will be interesting to see what happens over here.

In general though, I prefer the UK covers so tend to wait and get Mira.

Urban Paranormal

Yes, urban paranormal is a new genre for me too.

Stray

Caroline --

As I said the heroine in Stray at times appears somewhat immature in her outlook, BUT apparently over the series she grows. It is however an adult novel with adult themes.  Stray sets the series up and it is about the heroine Faythe learning about her powers and what is truly expected of her and how the world is different than what she first thought.

Twilight on the other hand is very definitely young adult and its themes reflect that.

I do like urban paranormal more than I thought I would though.

Stray

I thought Stray might be a bit high school, which did put me off, but I will be reading it now.  Thank you.

I didn't know there was a MIRA blog, I will take a look. Laughing

Urban fantasy

Caroline --

Storm Glass features a character from Maria's eariler series.  As I really enjoyed The Magic trilogy, I am looking forward to it. It is fantasy in another world.

Like Twilight ,Stray is urban fantasy/paranormal. But it is woman's fiction rather than YA urban fantasy (Twilight is very high school. My daughter adores it and if I was 16, I would fancy Edward. Very modern with fangs)  -- so there is more about a serial killer and a bit more about familial relationships. Do you remember the movie Cat People? It is a bit like that. I understand the main character grows up a bit in the next few books. She was a bit high schoolish (even though she was supposed to have graduated from university). It is a fun read and a great way to pass the time. I bought when my flight back to Newcastle was cancelled and I had several hours to kill in Heathrow.

Mira is publishing some very good urban fantasy at the moment.

Maria V. Snyder

Hi Michelle

I loved Poison Study and have Magic Study and Fire Study on my shelf to read.  Is Storm Glass part of a new series?

I like the look of Stray, seems like it might be similar to Twilight?

Storm Glass

I just had a look and the latest from Maria V Snyder -- Storm Glass will be a Mira release in July.

I discovered Maria last year when a reading group I was involved in read Poison Study. I then had to read the other two books -- Magic Study and Fire Study...

I also recently read Stray by Rachel Vincent. I suspect that I should read Gina Showalter as well. Has anyone read her?

The Lost Daughter and Others

Thanks Mena

No, I haven't read the Cee Cee Wilkes book.  I've not read any Diane Chamberlain before, but she seems like a popular author.  You will have to let me know if the sequel is good.

Two recent MIRA books I've read are Bye Bye Love by Patricia Burns and Drifting South by Charles Davis, both were excellent if you get a chance to read them.

Lost Daughter

Hi Caroline

I've read the lost daughter and it is great. it's actually called The secret life of Cee Cee Wilkes in Europe (I'm in Ireland) and so be careful you don't buy it all over again. I almost ordered the lost daughter from amazon thinking it was a completely different book until I read the excert/reviews and realised it was cee cee's book. I think it's the publishers that are responsible for this and not the author.

diane has a follow up to it coming out in June here and I have that on order. I'll let you know how it is. I'm looking forward to it.

The Lost Daughter

Has anyone read 'The Lost Daughter' by Diane Chamberlain?  It's her most recent book and I'm thinking about reading it next.

Keeper of the Light sounds

Keeper of the Light sounds vaguely familiar--I had to google it. That was a powerful story. Sharon Sala is one of the authors I love to read.

Mira Authors

My favourite Mira Author is Diane Chamberlain. If any of you want great relationship novels, you won't be soory. I started with 'Keeper of the Light' about 10, 12yrs ago, and have misplaced my copy. I'd dearly love to replace it to read it again. I have read every one of Diane's books and this still remains my favourite.

I also love Sharon Sala. Her books are more suspenseful but very entertaining. Must look up her latest.
