Refreshingly Modern

I like the new covers, but even better is to have the new titles!  I also like the new idea for the duets (Lynn Graham's The Marriage Proposal & Bride for Real which make up The Volakis Vow). Sometimes 1 book isn't enough to do the story justice.

New Modern Covers

I absolutely hate the new covers.  The content may be the same but the old covers appealed to me more!. If I liked the cover I bought the book. The old covers were more sexy and romantic, these covers just do not do the series any justice.

Please Please bring back the old covers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yell

Why confusion reigns

Susan W is referring to the makeover they did last year. This is the SECOND makeover. They always did intend on updating all the series looks and with the advent of the new managing director, Mandy Ferguson, they took a long hard look at everything. Over the years the series looks have been updated and this is no exception.

HOWEVER, the editorial content has stayed the same!

Personally I don't care what is on the cover as long as the story fulfils its promise. I do like what they have done with the Historical covers.

And I think the whole Cherish for home and hearth type stories and Riva for flirty fun stories (regardless of the bedroom door being open or closed -- this is the UK in the 21st century for goodness sake!) is a great move.

Modern Covers

We know that our Modern customers have been very happy with the series as it is, so we have left these covers unchanged for the time being.

Susan, It looks like the Modern covers are changing so I'm bit confused by your statement saying they aren't.

Maurine

YUCK!

Yuck.  I don't like the new covers.  I read the Modern and I like the previous covers much better.  Why do you keep changing stuff?  It just alienates your longtime readers. Frown

Historical titles

Julia --

Welcome!  You will find most people congregate at the Pub or Subcare. But we are v friendly and so will remember your name without an avatar.

I love, love love the new look for Historical. I think it helps highlight the wonderful covers and that fact historical is single title within a series wrapper as  it were.

Often they will put the strap line for a series on the back cover  -- for example with Deb Hale's new trilogy Gentlemen of Fortune.

Does this help?

Some exciting thing happening to M & B

CoolI am new on here!  My mom and aunt read Mills & Boon and I am about to take my first steps in reading...  'A wedding at Leopard tree lodge & Three times a bridesmaid'  I am curious about the new changes to the book covers.  This 2-in-1 book I have looks good!  Very excited to settle down and have a good read.  Its good to wind down with a good read and escape for a while.... Thanks M & B.Cool

I just found out about this

I just found out about this community and joined today.   I loved the Superromances and was sad to see them go. I'm still not sure about the new Special Moments yet.  I'm especailly pleased to find out I can order them here instead of trekking into town (I live out in the sticks!) only to find WHSmith doesn't have all the titles available.  Looking forward to finding my way around.  I've already picked up valuable info about submitting a novel.  Thanks Smile

thanks

Hi Weebeanie and thanks for the comments - glad you enjoyed your latest read and thanks again for the feedback!

makeover

The new covers are ok, though I'm not a big fan of pastel shades. I did prefer when the books came separately as I rarely find both books in a 2-in-1 equally enjoyable. I agree with previous posters that it makes me less likely to buy.

On the other hand (Always one to look on the bright side!) I bought a 2-in-1 yesterday as first title was next in a serial I had already started reading and was surprised by how much I enjoyed second title.

This is my first post! Joined up today.   Smile

new makeover

I do not like the new format. I do not like the super romance books and i am upset that they are now included in with the special editions. You should also have kept the sensation books as they were. As for the 2 in1 books this was one of your worst ideas. I hope one day you will go back to the old formats that we knew and loved.

i just loved the new edition

i just loved the new edition for the mth of september...i love reading mills and boons and historicl heros are some thing to look forwered..my favorites are morden...abt a change is also good to explore . ...mills and boons r absolutely...pleasure to read any time....and i fell in love with heros of mills and boons...

new formats

I like the new covers but i also like the old ones.  My only problem is the format changes.  I really dislike 2 books being put in together, it means that if i don't like one of the two in the book i won't buy the book.  I love the medical romance series but I am finding myself totally limited now.  I used to buy from all series except historical but I'm buying less and less as more series get put into this combined format.  It may seem like good value to put 2 books together for a lower price than 2 separates but you actually feel ripped off if you only want to read one of them so in the end I have stopped buying them at all. Its a pity!!

Twice Monthly Releases

I'm not naturally a patient person, so I really like the new twice-monthly release schedule for the Modern series.  However, I do most of my selection/shopping for Modern books through the website, and I am finding that the way in which the upcoming releases are listed on the website hasn't changed to match the new schedule.  For instance, I have just bought Sarah Morgan's 'Powerful Greek, Unworldly Wife' from Amazon.  This is listed under the September releases on the M&B website, and the month given on the spine is September, but on its Amazon product page, the release date is given as 21st August.  In fact, the website and spine information seem to act as if the new twice-monthly system does not exist.  This sometimes makes it seem as if there will be no books for a month and half, although, obviously, this is not the case.  The Sarah Morgan book which I mentioned above  only gives information in the back for books published on 18th September and 2nd October, not the set of books to be published on the first Friday of September.  Is it a mid-August book or an early-September book? If the latter, which books are the mid-August books? The books listed under August on the website appear to be those which come out on 17th July or 7th August.

 Am I missing something here?

Thanks Sue

For the an explanation for the changes, as well as for the new covers themselves. I agree that they look more subtle and suggestive rather than explicit, and I think they really suit the Romance line.

I'm not at all shy about reading my favourite Harlequin Romances in public, but have no doubt that the new covers will attract fewer surreptitious glances!

Thanks

Thanks, Sue, I'll pass that on.

hi Thank you for all your

hi

Thank you for all your comments so far on the new covers/new formats.

We are pleased to see that you seem to like the look of the new covers! You've picked up on exactly what we were trying to achieve - leaving more to the reader's imagination and making the covers more subtle than previously. So far we have just changed the look of the series lines undergoing format changes. As we were already making changes it seemed the perfect time to update/freshen the look of these series. We know that our Modern customers have been very happy with the series as it is, so we have left these covers unchanged for the time being. Maybe in the future we can look to update these too.

I'm very sorry to hear that one of our readers is unhappy with the new Special Moments series. We looked to bring the best of both series together, taking the best authors/themes to make one 'super' series. We hope once you have read the stories you will agree these changes are for the better.

The Romance series will still be in larger print!

Thanks and keep blogging! Smile

New Look Romance

I've been asked on my blog if the "Romance" titles will still be in larger print.  (The enquirer liked that feature!)

New Covers

I like the look of the new covers...I like the existing covers too, but some of them can be a bit embarassing to read on the train!  The new ones are a little more subtle.

Makeovers and Special Moments

Why do you keep changing the format of books, when they really worked before. First you combined Sensation books with the inferior Intrigue series. Now you have combined Superromance books with Special edition books for the new special moments series.  I liked superromance books because of their longer stories and more complex plots, I was not such a fan of the shorter special edition stories.  I think you have made a big mistake with this which will lead to you losing long term customers including myself.  I have already cancelled the intrigue series and am seriously considering cancelling the Special Moments series. Why change a good format.

New Covers

I have just got my latest Modern parcel and see the new covers for the various series are showcased this month on the inner pages.  They look interesting but I'm curious as to why the decison was taken not to change the Modern covers (have I got that right?).  I like the graphics photos and colours that the previews show and I think the Modern colours do look a bit harsh compared to the newer ones to be launched. I like that the new covers seem to hint or suggest at the contents., not presenting you with too much detail about the characters before you have chance to immerse yourself in the story and paint your own pictures in your imagination of the hero and heroine.  Wishing the new covers on the block every success! Kiss
