Regency's 200th Birthday!
February 2011 marks the 200th birthday of the Regency period!
February 1811 was when George III was declared mentally unfit to reign as king. Parliament pas sed the ‘Regency Act’ allowing his son, the Prince of Wales (later known as George IV), to take the throne. This of course led to the decade from 1811 to 1820 being named the Regency period. This heralded the start of one of history’s most inspiring and vibrant eras.
It was the era of Jane Austen, empire line dresses, industrial innovation, epic battles and political drama that continue to inspire us today – Colin Firth’s Mr Darcy climbing out of the lake anyone?!
