Sporting Heroes to Lust After

Hi all

This afternoon, weather permitting and all in the name of team-building, Romance HQ is holding its very first old-fashioned Sports Day. (Yours truly will be attempting to distinguish herself in the beanbag-on-head race - could be worse, at least I avoided the sack race! I’ll keep you posted on the result…) But as I psych myself up to look ridiculous in front of all my colleagues, I’m consoling myself with thoughts of rather more impressive sporting legends.

All sports stars need drive and determination – combined with talent, it can make for a devastatingly attractive combination. There’s also something about the physical perfection successful sports stars need that makes them even more drool-worthy. In fact, they’re perfect hero material – just think of all that adrenaline and focus being targeted at you! (Let’s ignore any playing away from home opportunities –only happy endings allowed here.)

So, all in the name of pre-game mental preparation, this week’s blog is less of a discussion, and more of a celebration– of the sporting heroes we know and love! I currently have a bit of a thing going for Formula 1 – I’d be seriously torn between Jensen Button and the late (but amazing) Ayerton Senna. See below for some seriously self-indulgent images…

Yum! I’ve also never recovered from my first fictional crush, show-jumping legend Rupert Campbell-Black – I love the idea of a man who looks good in skin tight jodhpurs! (Would make one of us…)But perhaps you’re more into tennis players? Or are burly rugby-playing superstars your idea of the perfect romantic hero?

Whichever way your fancy lies, this week let’s hear it for the boys. Let us know your favorite sporting champ- all pictures VERY welcome!

FI Fans R Us!

Who knew that amongst all us romance fans there were sooo many women with a weakness for racing car drivers?! Love it!

And don't even get me started on the rugby continuity, wasn't it amazing? Nothing like thighs of steel to really catch a girl's attention...!

But is there any other sport you'd like to see more represented? Let us know! x

Sporting Heroes

Focus. Determination. Talent. Drive. Testosterone. Oh yes. Most definitely. Thank you very much. I'm no sports fan but even I have noticed that practically every driver on the F1 grid is gorgeous.

I really enjoyed the M&B rugby stories a couple of years ago too.  Rippling thighs.  Prop forwards.  Physical clashes of Titanic proportions.  Phew, is it warm in here? Tongue out

Hotties

I don't know, I kind of like the guy in the white shirt.  I wish you'd come up with another sports series, like the rugby one the Modern authors wrote.  Loved, them all!

Wow.

Nice pictures! Now I feel compelled to whip out a few NASCAR images of Carl Edwards. A very drool-worthy gentleman who inspired me throughout the writing of my own race-car driving hero. Notice he looks as good in a tux as he does with his shirt off . . .

Oh my!

Glorious pic of Jenson, Flo! Give me a guy in Nomex any day, whether it be Formula 1, Nascar or Rally and I'm a goner. One of my fave drivers is the Scot - of Italian descent - Dario Franchitti. Ashley Judd is one very lucky woman.

I am drawn to arenas where there is an extremely high level of integrity and sportsmanship between players and these traits often make the guys all the more irresistable. Tennis is a dead cert. Who could resist the power of Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal? The over-long sweat-drenched hair, the honed physique and the tears of joy when all the hard work pays off. And when one accepts glory, it is with the utmost respect for the defeated opponent. Gentlemen til the end, full of heart and honour.

Personally I do not have a great liking for football or rugby - BUT, I shall leave you with the one man who I would suffer a game of footie for; Fredrik Ljungberg...

You can't beat a man in cricketing whites

As a dear friend explained to me when I was a bit bemused by cricket..

My first introduction to the game was a One Day International England  v Australia 1985. IT Botham played magnificently and had stellar looks. Later I learnt about his long charity walks for luekemia.

Currently Alistair Cook is holding the crease in one of the reasons to watch cricket  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alastair_Cook

With rugby -- it is men in tight shorts with muddy thighs. Johnny WIlkinson was great but there is also a new pretender Ben Foden

When one's husband and youngest son are sports mad, one has to find compensation. :)

But to satisfy longings for men in jodhpurs, I submit Henry Brett former captain of England in polo...

Good luck on your Sports Day Team building exercise.
