Now, my kids have been known to tell me that "there's nothing to do" here in Erie, but I beg to differ. We were busy all weekend. On Saturday, we went to Celebrate Erie, a community gathering. The sidewalk chalk drawings down State Street are a huge draw. There are games and activities for kids, as well as great food and fantastic music! It's over for this year, but if you're in the area for next year's event, do visit! It's a great day!

The view down State Street and some games!

On Sunday, my dh and I signed up for a cruise on the Brig Niagara...Perry's ship in the Battle of Lake Erie. It was a bit hot, but so interesting seeing how a ship this big handles under full sails.

That's Captain Wesley.
The Captain again once we were underway.

The 'man-overboard' was actually a woman, and a drill! Thank goodness!
I loved this sequence of the crew hoisting the big flag!

There was a Snipe Race out on the bay as we went out. Each sailboat has a two man crew. I'm not exactly sure of the rules, but they were beautiful to watch!

The Bicentennial Toward at the dock at the foot of State Street and some seagulls. I know that most people think of the gulls as flying rats, but I think they're beautiful! Their cries are sort of haunting.

And this was my favorite sight on the ship...the sails. So beautiful!

You can find out more about day-sails on the Brig, as well as more about its history at http://www.brigniagara.org/
And if my kids ever tell you that they're bored and there's nothing to do in Erie, you can laugh in their faces! LOL
Hey, Happy Monday!!!
